Former graduates from Enterprise Enfield’s RSA Trust Inspiring Women Programme have just received funding from local charity, The RSA Trust, to launch and run a new Women’s Network. Laura Sorrell and Mel Tadhunter secured the funding after putting together an exciting proposal for the new Club - now named We Network. The Network will offer a range of services including: regular networking events with presentations on key topics and opportunities to pick up new contacts, customers and suppliers. Laura and Mel are looking forward to organising the inaugural summer We Network Launch Party in July in Enfield.

The Sunday Times - July 26, 2009 "Women are getting more beautiful"

Well we all knew this anyway didn't we? It's still good to know. I certainly feel that women today on film, TV and magazines are extremely attractive and I am not referring to those who have taken more drastic actions to improve their looks nor necessarily of younger women. It seems to me that a combination of confidence in self-expression, more earning power and an appreciation of taking care of ourselves, have all played a part in women today holding a certain charm of their own and part of this charm is the individual nature of the women themselves. The study outlined in The Sunday Times was carried out by a clinic in Helsinki and posits the view that women are becoming more aesthetically pleasing and that those women tend to produce more females and thereby perpetuating their that beauty. This in turn has lead them to their conclusion.

Whatever, the findings of any clinical studies, we all know that we need to keep an eye on our looks and that means taking good care of our skin and I don't necessarily see this as turning back the clock or trying to make ourselves look younger. In order to maintain our confidence in ourselves we need to feel the best we can. Nourishing our facial skin is one way to improve our own self-image. Summer is approaching (hopefully) and our beauty focus turns to protection and getting ready for the sun. The choice of suncare is vast but there's a hot debate brewing over ingredients and possible side-effects.

We love the sun and our love affair with the sun lounger is not about to end so everyone wants to find a safe place to bask. The issue of sunscreen ingredients is a complex (and pretty scientific) one but if you've ever suffered from prickly heat, sensitised skin or clogged pores we should make note that chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays whereas mineral ones reflect them. Therefore many heavily-used chemical ingredients actually cause and increase free radical damage in the skin. Mineral sunscreens like zinc oxide and titinium dioxide do not have this issue.

Experts are now trying to understand what the long-term effects of sun rays combined with synthetic chemicals are - do they cause free radical damage? I will endeavour to bring to you any up-to-date information on the issue ...oh, and don't forget your sun hat!

Surlingham Manor - What a Weekend! Breathing Space put on a Women Only Weekend that proved to be a delight to all who attended. Sorrells Naturally products were displayed and a free gift given to all guests to use in the luxuriously appointed bathrooms of the Manor House. There was such a wonderful buzz about the whole weekend. Veena from www.Inspiredotcom.com was on hand to provide inspiration to anyone who wished. There were Yoga taster classes, EFT and NLP discussion events along with a demonstration of Thai Massage from Jenny.

The Food, well what can I say about the food - I know everything was carefully planned down to the last detail even the eggs were collected fresh on the day from a local farm. The Fish Pie was superlative and my personal favourite was the Ginger Cheesecake which was out of this world! We had Bucks Fizz at lunch time on Saturday which all added to the flavour of luxury with no pretentionswhatsoever.

The Feedback I know has been wonderful generally, here is a comment from Fiona: "Your products smell divine & as soon as I got back home I lept in the shower & covered my self in the body scrub & as everyone had promised it did leave me soft & silky & feeling all pampered. The pomegranate serum is becoming a favourite as is everything else I bought. I can see me becoming hooked on the whole range…"

A balmy London evening overlooking Regent Street sipping Pimm's - life felt good and ethical to boot. Tues 19th May at the 'Pop-up Shop in Soho' a collaboration took place between affordable ethical e-boutique Bochica and bespoke reclaimed textile design team Emmeline 4 Re and Sorrells Naturally. The highlight being a VIP event for ethical fashionistas and press to meet the designers and creators behind the labels.

The attendees were an impressive guest list of journalists and ethical fanshionistas including Sugar Magazine, Daisy Chain Baby, Book of Green and On|Off, Le Cool London, Raingy + Best and Sky.

Kate Meegan from Book of Green says "I went along to the launch party on Tuesday. There is a fantastic array of ethical clothing from a whole host of different designers. Bochica hand picks her favourite items each season. Artistic licence is a wonderful tool. Having just returned from Egypt I was struck by this beautiful poem and just had to find a format that I was able to be reminded of it and so here it is. My skin took some punishing even though I wore a huge hat and took pains to avoid the sun on my face - still I had Sorrells Naturally Hydrating Day Cream and Night Cream (£10.99) to keep my skin in best condition throughout my trip.

On the matter of our facial skin though there are no two ways about it. The Sun damages our skins and causes premature ageing, the only real answer is to avoid it. Wearing a hat and a reasonable factor sun screen are all sensible measures that we can take in order to avoid the worst effects. The Guardian Newspaper 8th April 2009 confirms that one 20-year old a day is now diagnosed with the most dangerous form of skin cancer. However, there is a growth amonst all groups and this is a very worrying trend. Sunbeds are not a safe alternative either.

A religious festival celebrating motherhood has been existent in Europe since approximately 250 BC when the Romans honoured the mother goddess cybele during mid-March. As the Roman Empire and Europe converted to Christianity, Mothering Sunday celebrations became part of the church calendar and the fourth Sunday in Lent to honour the virgin mary and the mother church. As always we at Sorrells Naturally are happy to combine business with pleasure. Margaret hosted a wonderful Wine Tasting event at her lovely Barn by the Norfolk Coast. As members of the Little Acorns Group we were introduced to the Perfect Wine Company and Emily Barclay who was happy to bring a fine selection of Wines along on 3rd March - even though this proved a very blustery evening most made it along and the group were all please to pick up on wine tasting tips and the opportunity to taste some fine extra dry Prosecco, red and white wines.

Whilst Sorrells Naturally can't offer wine advice we do nevertheless consider our products fine examples of their type and exceptionally worthy of note. Generally at this time of year we are all examining our skins for signs of wear and hoping that the overindulgence of Christmas and New Year is not so apparent on our faces. It must be said that now is the time to review our beauty regimes and as well taking care of our food (and alcohol) intake we must also check our skin is fully prepared for the sunshine. INSPIRING WOMEN WEEKEND!

I have been very fortunate to have been accepted onto the RSA Inspiring Women Programme through Enfield Enterprise. We have met as a group on two occasions and have just returned from a residential weekend at a local Holiday Inn in Hertfordshire. Whilst our business is changing we remain focused on achieving the vision we started with back in 2007; To Deliver locally produced, well-made and as much free of chemical preservatives (SLS and Parabens) as possible.

We wanted to create something that would enrich and connect everybody it touches; our customers, our partners, our neighbours and friends and family. We wanted to develop a culture that was visionary, passionate and creative so that we could really make a differrence. We are proud to say that these values are still the foundation of our business and will remain so.

At Sorrells Naturally we want to provide a high service to our customers.
